Question

Can PTV Visum/PTV Vissim/PTV Vistro be operated on a virtual server or on cloud computing services?

Answer

PTV Visum/PTV Vissim/PTV Vistro can be run locally or on a virtual or physical server used as terminal server.

Keep in mind that the software needs access to a network license from a license server (a single-user license will not work):

- A license on an USB dongle needs to be plugged in somewhere in the network: A physical computer or a network USB host, for example:

For support please refer to the vendor.

If a virtual machine is going to run a virtual license server, it needs access to the USB port of the physical computer or of the network USB host.

- Caveat: A license in a Soft container cannot be installed on a virtual machine.

- For cloud computing services a Cloud-based license container is offered: https://cgi.ptvgroup.com/vision-help/LicenseMgt_ENG/Content/License-mgt/License-basic-information.htm

Note that PTV Visum/PTV Vissim/PTV Vistro is a Windows desktop application which always uses a window handle and needs to run in a user session.
